Exploring novel neutralizing antibodies for the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases Dr Matthias ZEHNER Institute of Virology, Laboratory of Experimental Immunology University Hospital of Cologne Invited by Dorian McILROY

Dr. Matthias Zehner, a senior postdoctoral research associate at the Laboratory of Experimental Immunology under the guidance of Professor Florian Klein at the University Hospital Cologne, is recognized for his expertise in immunology, with a focus on antigen presentation and antibody response mechanisms. His research has significantly contributed to our understanding of antibody responses to SARS-CoV-2 and has paved the way for innovative approaches to Ebola virus immunity, both supporting the development of therapeutic antibodies against such viral infections. Currently, Dr. Zehner is expanding his research into HCMV—a virus posing substantial risks to immunocompromised individuals and unborn children. He tackles the intricate complexities of HCMV and the diverse immune responses it triggers, with a specific emphasis on unraveling the intricacies of memory B cells against HCMV. This research is pivotal in advancing our knowledge and therapeutic strategies against this prevalent virus. In his upcoming presentation, Dr. Zehner will delve into the intricate antibody responses against HCMV and provide insights into future directions and anticipated discoveries in HCMV antibody research.
